Houston Fly Fishers – Don’t Forget to Hit FTU This Weekend!

Here’s a little reminder that Fishing Tackle Unlimited (FTU) is having their Annual Inshore Expo December 13, at their location on I45 east of the fine City of Houston. If you haven’t been to FTU, this is a perfect opportunity to visit the only Houston fishing store with a heavy, heavy emphasis on fly fishing gear – saltwater gear. And they also have as much, if not more, saltwater fly tying materials than any fly shop in Texas as well. Ever want to see Enrico Puglisi fibers up close and personal? The last time I was there, it looked like they had every single variety of Puglisi.
With the list of guest speakers and reps, this is a fantastic opportunity for those considering taking on the salt when freshwater action slows down for a good part of Texas. Saltwater rods, reels, priceless information … you’ll find all that at FTU Houston.
FOGGED IN DAY 2
We have had some unusual fog settling in the last two days here in North Texas, and that has kept us closer to home waiting for the soup to burn off. Since going to the Blue River is out, narrow backroads and wild drivers don’t mix well with fog, we’re focusing on the long-term outlook and headed the short distance to Cottondale, Texas, to work on the Airstream – our future home away from home for the Texas Fly Caster fly fishing broadcasting efforts.
MUSIC AND MORE
It’s never too soon to start the Top Ten Fly Fishing Music Countdown, and that will be out in a few posts starting next week – just in time for gift giving for the music fans in your lives. Speaking of music … The Texas Fly Fishers of Houston are having a Christmas party to remember! None other than Sara Hickman will be the musical entertainment, and for those of you who don’t know who Sara Hickman is, you can hear her here –
It looks like some of our Texas fly fishing clubs are well aware of what makes for good entertainment, and are willing to go out and get great entertainers to enhance their annual events. Look out CCA!
NOTE
I am always looking for great Christmas-Holiday fly fishing gift ideas. If you have seen something you want, be sure to let me know! We can run a post on it, then you just send Santa here to have a look … subtle, but effective. If you’re into netting your trout, don’t mis-underestimate the clear rubber nets we see for sale just about everywhere now. My experiences with them tell me the clear nets eliminate that last bolt trout make as they see the net approaching (black net = giant black mouth). They just don’t react the same. Maybe we can find a lineup of these nets for Santa to choose from?
