Get Out and GO! Salt on Fire

I could almost smell it, and now my eyes see it: This October is already epic along the Texas Gulf Coast. The latest Lone Star Outdoor News dropped in my mailbox today, and it’s simply gushing with great reports on the Lone Star State’s Gulf Coast. Bull reds? Check. Trout? Check. How about snook, or tarpon on the jetties? Check. Calm green water is in close and somebody needs to pick up a stick and go beat some of these fish down!

Of course there was a red tide event earlier in the month in the Corpus Christi, TX, area, but you can find the latest on that here Texas Red Tide watch. It’s so far to go anywhere in Texas, anywhere salty anyway, that our “Know Before You Go” rule takes on special import. I meant to get that news out earlier, but pressing these keys is tough at the moment.

And the time is right for the action to pick up on our local lakes as well! Water temps should follow air temps on down, and that means we can look forward to a shallow bass bite as we have in so many North Texas falls past. Water temperatures and your electronics are the things to watch if you are looking for bass on fly (moving shallow) at your lake.

I also read in the LSON that there is going to be a Orvis Film Tour stop in Dallas next week. Amazing how the once staid company is really starting to open up their marketing toward a younger audience nowadays, isn’t it? They may be late to the party, as usual, but they have a pretty good budget! Next thing you know, they’ll discover carp … wait a minute … they already did … a few years late, but they’re on it! Regardless, the event will have their spokesman, Tom Rosenbower on hand, and this is also a Project Healing Waters event.
