Sand Bass on Fly – It’s a Texas Thing

| April 19, 2013

In North Texas, spring has been an on-again-off-again thing. Today, ambient temps are in the upper 30’s and expected to be in the 60’s for highs. That’s just not right. If you couple these late April weather swings with the continuation of our spreading drought, all I can say is; when someone says they’re biting, you better have your rod loaded and ready to go. My FISH FLASHes that have been going out in April have a shelf life as short as a day, and finding patterns … it just isn’t lasting that long.

There’s plenty of down and dirty ditch creek fishing locally, and more power to those folks is all I can say. The experiences in the stretch I fish are a little less pounded and a lot less crowded. If I can just get work to get out of the way, there’s a lot of fishing to do all over Texas right now. As for the sand bass running here, it was over almost as soon as it started, and there are no crappie following as in years past (so far).
