Fish Fizzle Replaces Fish Flash

I think I am about done taking photographs of the drought stricken, dirty and dank edges of what were once viable fly fishing lakes, like Lewisville, so you’ll have to believe me when I say that the good old days of the Hickory Creek run appear to be a thing of the past. Talk about a real recession err… depression.

I was talking to another fisher camped under the bridge, and we marveled at the fact that where we were standing would have placed us under four feet of water (that’s four feet over our heads) a few years ago – back when the good times were rolling.

SAY YOUR PRAYERS

We really don’t need a hurricane or two this summer. Texas is completely unprepared in most ways, and especially when it comes to actually retaining the water a hurricane would bring. Think about that a minute.

However, we can still say our prayers for a summer like the one we had in, what was it, 2009? If a solid El Nino gets established, we can expect a pattern like we are getting now, but with the heat trigger that actually makes it rain around here (scientists, correct me if I’m wrong). So say a little whisper for El Nino when you lay your head down to sleep – every night until further notice.

Just as a friendly reminder of how much things have changed – one year ago today was a banner day at the Greenbelt Park at 428 North of Denton, Texas. Feel free to watch a video from last year –

I was running that trail on a Sat. Morning two weeks ago and heard what sounded like a big bore semi-auto going off repeatedly in my intended direction.

Enough to make me turn around and finish my run in Highland Village!

That’s on the western side of Lewisville Lake. Its a new bridge that goes over at Hickory Creek. Heard gunfire there last night though, and was questioned by a local police officer in the parking lot (as a witness). No big deal, but shots were close to road (maybe under bridge) and not shotgun. That’s life in the Chicken Fried Nation!
