Memorial Day Weekend Report
Don’t go!
But if you have to get a fly fishing fix, Lake Ray Roberts’ Johnson Branch seems to lack the crowds the rest of the lake suffers from during this National Holiday. I heard the line at the entrance was only two cars long as of early afternoon yesterday!
If you get out early enough, you can get to places on foot that will transport you away from the sound of crowds, but probably not the sight of them.
If nothing else, be sure to stop in at your local fly shop! These are good times to touch base, see what’s new and what might be on the markdown rack. DFW has never had it quite this good when it comes to mom-and-pops. While stores, like Tailwaters have grown into large businesses, they still qualify as a mom-and-pop to me! Besides, wouldn’t any of these smaller shops like to be Tailwater size anyway?
Tailwaters Fly Fishing & Travel
And don’t forget all the new “outfitters” that are popping up on the edges of the Texas Hill Country! It will be crowded, but a drive down the edges on HWY 281 will show things you never thought you would see! The crowds have moved into the eastern edges of the Hill Country, the barbarians have overrun the place and taken over.
Overall – BE SAFE.
