Thrown to the Mat

| June 2, 2022

Don’t ask me why, because I still don’t know the answer, but the month of June was dominated by two things – the wind and a brisk sale of fly line mats. Maybe that’s the reason?

Regardless, most May days, and now including most of June 2022, were literally crushed by record days of constant brutal winds. And regardless of the “Chamber of Commerce” reports from elsewhere, they were all battling the same brutal conditions. As you saw in my Brazos River fly fishing video, the only escape was in Texas rivers. Hence, my purchase of a brand new “Can-Yak” the Old Town Sportsman 119 – – which still sits in its wrapper unused and screaming for attention.

Coffee in the Pot

Running on the other track of this runaway train? The high cost of space in Fort Worth, Texas, has sealed the fate of “Coffee & Caddis – Fort Worth.” At the same time, it opened doors to other locations, faraway locations, in Texas. Not only did the location change, it takes a complete realignment of the work I had done on the freshwater location, and sets that on the back simmer. The boil is elsewhere now, and if you are wondering? I still smell the coffee.

There will be more news on the “realignment” June 12, and you will be either laughing or crying. That’s the way it goes. If you subscribe to my Patreon Fly Fishing Channel, you will know FIRST what this story is all about. For subscribers, I am starting a “video diary,” of sorts, about my views on the any fly shop startup and what this learning experience has brought to this old dog – in detail. You know how I wander right? – so there is no telling what other topics will surface in the video diary entries.

I certainly appreciate the patience of all my fly friends here and elsewhere. I am booked for the weekend and into Monday, so there should be some action on the TexasFlyCaster Instagram feed – my official “Fish Feed,” while making a huge volume of fly fishing line mats runs 18-hours-a-day in the background. States with my fly line spikes on board include, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, New York, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, California, Oregon, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Tennessee. Countries now include, Bahamas and soon coming to Belize. It’s a good product. The retail price suffered an increase on June 1, as we all suffer along with this strange economy. I am enjoying the ride while it lasts: It’s only a matter of time before someone knocks-off this design.
