Overcast Mornings Take Me Back
There is nothing quite like a San Diego County morning. The marine layer is just like the mornings we are having here in North Texas right now – overcast almost to being foggy, and a needed break from the hot morning sun that will finally come out around noon, as lazily as any photojournalist catching the last wave before heading in to work the two-to-eleven shift. What a time. What a place. I’m glad to be here and now though.
Prototyping Continues for New Kydex Product
The new Kydex holster-sheath-scabbard thing for holding your valuable fishing pliers – is still underway. The only one of these I have completed today is for MY OWN Danco Premio 5.5″ pliers, which are the PERFECT pliers for a fly fisher’s streamside gear. While these are expensive? believe me, they are not the most expensive fishing pliers on the market. You can actually break the bank a few different ways when it comes to fishing pliers! The Van Staal Pliers come in at $349 and $399-dollars, and you would have to keep me away from sharp objects IF I ever had and lost a pair of those … talk about unimaginable pain! And that is the tip of a very expensive iceberg. Catch the Simms Flyweight Pliers at $180 or the Hatch Nomads at a whopping $375 US Dollars!
Striking a Cord
Apparently viewers are relating well to the last YouTube video about Dam Hopping around North Central Texas, which I hope does not strike viewers as false advertising on its face! We are in a strange place, and strange time here in North Central Texas, whether casting on dam spillways or in big lakes … strange days indeed. AND THAT IS THE TRUTH. Let’s just say the last couple of weeks have not been … inspirational fly fishing. If you have yet to participate in the “Where to Go Next?” survey, click on the Community Board box <- on the left hand column, and go vote on where to go next. I will abide by that survey’s results – at least for the Winning lake, and maybe for the Second Place finisher as well. BUT, if we spin some concentric circles around North Texas Fish Camp, we realize TEXOMA is pretty darn close! Or at least a “portion” of Texoma is pretty in darn close range. Truly next door is Lewisville Lake, and that just may be today’s escape plan. Lake Ray Roberts is officially off my radar, believe it or not.
Thanks for reading from wherever you are this morning! I hope you enjoy these SoCal mornings as much as possible, and we can only hope these mornings continue to blunt the Texas heat a little while longer! Wish me a ton of luck on this Kydex pliers holster prototyping – I hate making mistakes! If you have a pair of “top-shelf” fishing pliers and you want to have a non-leather sheath? Feel free to contact me, and we can discuss how to make that happen for you! This Kydex is fascinating stuff!
NEW SERIES STARTS THIS WEEK – How TPWD Cheats at Stocking Freshwater Lakes. The actual numbers tell this story with no help from me! And I HATE numbers …
