Team North Texas Family Gathering
(Formally Take a Soldier Fishing)

We are an annual family gathering of Military and Veterans and their families. It is free to them. Texas Parks and Wildlife provides the campgrounds and a pavilion for our use. A fundraiser and private donations provides the money to serve them delicious meals. Local boaters provide the boats. My Team provides the work. We all come together for a wonderful event.
This is our small way of giving back to those who have given so much to their country. Our Guests enjoy camping, hiking, swimming, as well as fishing. This is a well deserved vacation for the families to spend time together and have some well deserved fun!
On the Saturday of the event is the big day. There will be domino, volleyball and horse shoe tournaments for those who remain at the pavilion and choose not to go out on the boats that local anglers provide. There will be a Kid’s fishing tournament and wake boarding and tubing as well as other kids activities during the day. We also have other games arranged. We have a raffle and donated door prizes that everyone appreciates.
Breakfast will be served at 6am and the 1st round of anglers hit the water at safe light. Then the bus comes in enjoy breakfast and grabs a sack lunch and goes fishing or retreats to their favorite game table.

The evening meal on Saturday will be a fish fry with all the trimmings.
We have a bus coming from Bonham for Saturday and expect around 35 Veterans on it. These Guys look forward to this event all year. We try to send them home with enough refurbished fishing gear as we gather so that they are able to go fishing whenever they want to.
I have an extensive Team of wonderful people who donate their time and energy to make all this happen. – Letter from Lyndee Prieskop

NOTE-I have no knowledge of this event, but it appears to be worthwhile. All information provided by Lyndee Prieskop. Although the lake is very low, there are plenty of fish to be found around the Johnson Branch park shores, and the grounds are also in fantastic condition.
