Tailwaters Dallas Fly Shop Event Schedule 2020

This is from the good people at the preeminent Dallas Fly Shop – Tailwaters, and as you can see, they have a great slate of events lined up for every level of fly fisher. Sure, we all know they love to do the exotic trips, and quite honestly wouldn’t we all! But, as you can see, they are invested in the beginning fly fisher (just as I have been for years) as well. DO ME A FAVOR: If you are an experienced fly tier, be sure to bring YOUR OWN fly tying materials to these BRAND NEW FLY TYING events at Tailwaters … it’s just common sense, and courtesy. (My unsolicited two-cents-worth) And if they have fly tying supplies, BUY SOMETHING please (again my own two-cents).

We’ve have some great events coming up this Spring!  Included are several gatherings at the shop, the annual Fly Fishing Brew Fest, the Fly Fishing Film Tour, Schools and Clinics at the shop, and much more. Put these dates on your calendar and stand by for more details. 

Meantime, we could not be more excited about the arrival of Spring coming soon. Make sure to come down to the shop to see us as you gear up for your Spring Break adventures or the pretty weather local fishing that will be here before you know it!

• March 7: Fly Fishing 101 (8am to 10am)
  • New to the sport? Come learn the basics including gear overview, knot tying, and an hour of casting instruction hosted here at the Levee Street shop. Sign up here.
• March 17: Fly Tying Night 
  • Every third Tuesday of the month for Beers and Bugs as we tie hand selected patterns from Kristian Cole Follow us on instagram @tailwatersflyfishing for updates and more information for trying nights
• March 21: Fly Fishing 101 (8am to 10am)
• March 21-22: Fly Fishing & Brew Fest
  • Come visit us at the 4th annual Fly Fishing and Brew Fest in Plano, TX. Merchandize including rods, flys, and soft goods will be available for purchase. Kristian Cole will be speaking at Bourbon and Bugs, and Lara Ducker will be a figure at the ladies event!

• March 28: BBQ Cookoff at SMU (TouchDown Club)
  • Tailwaters will be competing this year along with our official event caterer, Ben Johnson, owner of Gutherie’s Catering at the 7th Annual Touchdown Club BBQ Rib and Appetizer Cookoff benefitting the Ashford Rise School of Dallas. Come support team Tailwaters and Guthrie’s! Meet the guide staff for our new local guided options, talk travel destinations, education offerings and all things fly fishing. We will also be selling Tailwaters gear at the event!
• April 2: Film Tour at Community Brewing w/ pre and after party at TW 
  • Join us at the shop for the “official” pre and post party for the Fly Fishing Film Tour! Tailwaters is proud to announce that one of our customers is featured in the lineup this year in the movie “Common Threads”. 10% of sales pre and post film will go to Casting for Recovery, the beneficiary of the film stop in Dallas! Also on Saturday April 4th, join Tailwaters at the shop, where 10% of all sales will be donated to Casting for Recovery – A Tailwaters Rising Tide Partnership.

• April 28: Matt Bennet Comes to Dallas Tyers Club At Tailwaters
  (6:30pm-8:30pm) and Bourbon Tasting
  
  • Tailwaters welcomes world renowned fly tier, Matt Bennett for April’s tying night! We are excited to host Matt, as he ties his signature Carp-It Bomb fly pattern. Matt will be our guest instructor for the night, all skill levels are welcome. Cost for this event will be $20 at the door, and will include materials and instruction from Matt. Please RSVP for this event by calling the shop directly at (214-219-2500). RSVP no later than April 20th. We will also have a Bourbon tasting to accommodate this special event.

• May 16: Anniversary Party & Patagonia & Sage
  • Come celebrate our 13th anniversary with us at the shop! Bugs, Brews, Bourbon Tasting, and MORE. The crew from Patagonia will be here with their new wader line on display and items from their fish line. Come cast with the full line up with boys from Sage and the latest lines from RIO! We are also excited to host Aaron Reed as he launches his new book “Fly Fishing Austin and Central Texas”!
