Monday Morning Sidewalk Resumes in Print
Season Greetings my fly fishing friends! And the season’s sand bass right NOW!
Thanks to the local put-and-take information circulating, I started getting notices from those of you still here in North Central Texas that the mommas had joined the poppas upstream (and on the fly?) – in local creeks so common, yet so fickle in North Texas. these last few years of strange-is-normal weather.
Anyone can see, if they’re not color blind, the redbuds are in full bloom now, and although we are way way short on rain, the short-lived trees have let loose of a good seasonal bloom this year in and around Denton, Texas. By the way, if you know your Texas birds, bees, flowers and trees? then you know Denton is the “Redbud Capital of Texas!” Jazz and redbuds – what a lively combination.
You probably don’t realize I was doing the Monday Sidewalks, and this is one (of those regular columns) in case you were not aware, on the YouTube Channel for a number of recent weeks. That adventure into attempting to mainstream a micro niche – Texas Fly Fishing news and conditions – went over like a lead balloon. Somehow, I did not tickle you, or the YouTube algorithm …
SO LET’S GET STARTED!

I am just back at Fish Camp North – as of late yesterday – from near Round Top, Texas, where I spent a few days in support of selling Denton artist’s work at the major spring event that covers acres and acres in Round Top and where our huge tent is nearby in Warrenton, Texas. This area is actually one-half of my family origins. As you can see from the photograph, not far away lies the Drawe family of origin – in a graveyard named for the family. I have stopped to pay my respects a few times, to pay my respects for the wise Germans who fled Germany in the late 1830’s and set their feet in the middle of wild ass Texas at a time when white survival was in no way guaranteed, and the odds were actually in favor of the locals for a few more decades to come. Forget “intellectual expats,” we’re talking Texas pioneers. Eminent Domain wasn’t covered under any insurance policies in the 1830’s Texas pre-Nationhood.

Be sure to find some Czech polka on the radio if you are in the area – the signal is strong! Or, if you are in the Houston area early April — CHECK this out – UNT Band playing Czech Polka at the CCMH Annual Spring Festival in Houston April 5 .

There was not any chance to hit real water while I was down in Warrenton for three days, and once I am back later this week? The same will probably be true. The only fly fishing I did was after work, hitting a private pond behind our tent grounds, a pond that has seen wetter days – hardly what I call, “hitting water.” For the record, Warrenton and that part of Texas is BONE DRY right now. Any rain they get will be soaking in for days before starting to runoff into any of those ponds around the scenic Round Top area of Texas.

Rounding It Out
Tides this week, are based in Port O’Connor, Texas, and are pretty mellow looking from what little I can read and comprehend of the tide charts. The good thing? Tide movement, what little natural movement there is, is during the core of the day. I would tap out a prediction here – for a GOOD to Very Good early morning bite in Port O this week.
And here are your moon phases, which are looking very favorable for a daytime bite this week on the Texas Gulf Coast! CLICK TO ENLARGE THOSE CHARTS!

Thanks for reading, and I hope this finds more eyes than my YouTube Monday Mornings did! I don’t know where that is going, but there seems to be a need for a weekly video of some kind on that channel.
