Happy Birthday Larry

Paul Newman – HUD 1963 – “Horseman, Pass By,” Larry McMurtry

Today is Larry McMurtry’s birthday! I am pretty sure it adds up to 84, but I too am a writer, and hardly a mathematician.

I found this really funny article on Larry last night – http://henrybemisbookseller.blogspot.com/2015/06/birthday-larry-mcmurtry.html — and the quotes are classic.

Take a close look at the photograph in that post. Larry’s belt is half cocked, and I can honestly say I have made images very similar to that – but a LONG time before this one appeared.

People, if you are not familiar with Larry, read the “Lonesome Dove” series beginning to end. You want Texas, you will have a fill of Texas history, and the hard scrabble living of the late 1800’s.

And if you don’t read (like our current President), see the movie, “Hud,” with Paul Newman. If that movie doesn’t get you into Texas, the Texas Panhandle, I give up.
