Where To Now?

| June 1, 2009

Looks like things are heating up in the fly fishing world of Texas. We recently heard from Rey Ramirez, and he said there were a couple of search and catch missions that ran up the South Padre Island National Seashore recently that found Tarpon and Jacks in the surf.

If that doesn’t get your interest, just go to a pond nearby and cast a few times. The LMB’s are up and feeding, and schooling patterns, for Sand Bass, are swinging into form for the spring and summer. The only thing I have to do is figure out which location is closest and easiest to reach by kayak and go get some of that Sand Bass action — you can too, just follow the birds.

Speaking of kayaks, I have almost completed a multi-part post on how to select kayaks and the extras you will need to be successful and most importantly – SAFE. I just need to do the photography and detail shots as well as some good outgoing informational links, and it should hit the site late this week or early next.

The Carp flats story was turned in today, and if accepted by Lone Star Outdoor News, should run in their next issue. I do have a story there right now, but have not seen it in print or online. I heard it was on their web site, but can’t find it. The Dargel story may never see print, but it will run here if nowhere else.

Meanwhile, there may be some rod building in the future. Folks are pushing / encouraging me to go that direction, so all I have to do is figure out who to learn from – and be accepted by them. Nothing too momentous there!
