SUNDAY SHARING DAY

Sharing the Love – Fly Fishing Arkansas Cycling

What more can a show wrap into a tortilla? Try this Sunday Share Video that popped on my YouTube HOME screen? I visited the Bentonville home office, and went into the control room of Wal Mart in about 1995. My former roommate and UNT graduate had just secured a job there, and he was proud to show me the computer room where they strived to keep real-time sales updates coming in – fast enough to satisfy the Wal Mart executives. He was a contract worker hired by them to be in that freezing cold room making sure the data kept coming – on huge writable hard discs that held a whopping three then four terabytes – as they integrated more and more capacity to crunch.

Like so many people chewed up and spit out by Wal Mart home offices, that roommate gravitated to a different career in the same field, and eventually he disappeared from my life – under the weight of the culture war that started in 2018. Sew the wind, reap the whirlwind. But on my visits to that part of Arkansas, was my first time to witness fly fishing, a sport I feared at the time because of its intense gravitational pull on me … and now you see I was right to fear it. More than a gravitational pull, more of a black hole or as I am now calling it “Fish Derangement Syndrome.”

PUBLISHER NOTE: That rocker I am sitting in? That’s an original antique Stickley Rocker, and the photo is from 2011 and in Mountain Home if I recall correctly.
