Monday Morning Saving My Glass
Actually, it wasn’t my glass, but you get the alliteration right? I was working on a customer’s custom frame for a leaded glass piece, and was carrying it back inside when I caught my toe on the deck … taking a full-bodied tumble and saving the piece with nary a bend or scratch to it. You know how fragile a leaded stained glass piece is? It makes me believe “I still got it,” even if I don’t got walking down pat anymore!
It was a toe stub, and I am going to blame the disintegrating deck with its protruding screws for the ruining of a virtually perfect day of standing upright – up to that tumble. It is what it is, but it leads to a new video coming this week about … wait for it … rock hopping and keeping your balance doing it! Ironic is a word that is screaming in my ear, the one that still works.
What would be another completely fantastic day of fly fishing – TODAY MONDAY APRIL 28th. – is yet another day of blowing winds that are a bit more interesting because of their lack of direction here in North Texas. Shelter in a river would be fantastic, but rivers are blown with releases or runoff here in this region. Wind is nothing new to Texas, mind you, this far north in Texas is basically a line from Oklahoma, “When the winds come sweeping down the plain … ” and right into Texas with nothing stopping them.
Paint Your Glasses
My Grandpa hated to paint – any way any time. I remember more than once, he would come in from work with paint on his good prescription glasses, like the ones I wish I had now. They were virtually blacked out by the spray paint on them, and he stumbled right into the wrath of my Grandma, a feisty little Louisiana girl who fashioned her temper after Scarlett O’Hara. It was not good. She was not a fan of helping him clean his glasses, but still she did it ALL THE TIME. So that wisdom taken in, I wait for the wind to die down before I begin the paint job on that leaded glass frame … I am all the wiser fifty-plus years later, in my mind at least. I miss you Scarlett.
What Is It About Tom Rosenbauer?
I made the video below about a year ago, and hit had some legs to it. Maybe it attracted “Rosenbauer Geeks,” or maybe it attracted fly tying and could care less who’s this Rosenbauer guy kind of people? It doesn’t matter. I just see what I see, and that is a pretty sour seeming individual who looks partially ground up by the corporate mistress who keeps him at her beck-and-call when (it looks like to me) he would rather be doing anything else than servicing Mrs. Orvis. I am probably wrong about this, but have yet to hear any disputes of my theory, and if you read here, you know it’s not a NEW theory. He does have some great books though, and I am sure had no help writing them 😄.
Crack in Time
If you find a little time, a crack of a few hours this week, IT IS TIME! Conditions are pushing toward optimal this week, and so are we. We are approaching max altitude, and except for the turbulence, getting ready to flip the autopilot ON for a couple of months where the fish are HERE, and all we have to do is get THERE. I have never ever had more “things” getting in my way of getting there, so sometimes it is just best to disappear – if even for a moment. Find your own crack in time, holler at me if you have a chance, and we will see how our time lines up! “After all, tomorrow is another day!” – Scarlett O’Hara | Gone With The Wind 1939
