Laguna Madre Fly Fishers Association Magoo Tournament Results 2013

| August 29, 2013

Fly Fishing on the Texas Gulf CoastFROM NEWS RELEASE— Well, the 2013 Richard McGinis (Magoo) LMFFA tournament is in the books! All that attended enjoyed two evenings of food, drinks and socializing with fellow Fly Fishermen. The Tournament participants endured a beautiful day on the bay, fish that were hard to find and even harder to entice to eat a fly.

In summary we had 25 participants fishing in the tournament, 11 participants entered fish and the 11 participants entered 16 fish. The only species entered were Red Fish, Trout and Lady Fish.
Notable entries included:
Tim O’Brien’s 26.5 inch 1st Place Redfish,
Bryan Robinson’s 26.25 inch 2nd Place Redfish,
Skipper Ray’s 27 inch 1st Place Trout,
Mark Machado’s 2nd Place 17.5 inch Trout (Mark’s fish tournament ever and he won 2nd place trout),
Stanley Woelfel’s 22.75 inch 1st Place Lady Fish, and
Jim Palumbo’s 22.25 inch Lady Fish.

Also Dr. Rey’s (Ramierz) 14.75 inch trout, his only entry, as his boat’s oil pump went out as soon as he got out into the bay and he spent the rest of the day trying to fix his oil pump and get his boat back to the dock.

Skipper Ray is the 2013 Richard McGinis (Magoo) Memorial Fly Fishing Tournament’s Grand Champion with a total of 68.5 inches.

Friday and Saturday’s evening socials had approximately 30-35 attendees each night.
During the weekend we also had 7 new 2013 LMFFA members pay 2013 dues and participate in the Magoo Tournament events.
We want to thank everyone that helped make this year’s tournament a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone. Special THANKS to Larry and Molly Haines for hosting the Friday evening registration at their store (The Shop) in Port Isabel, Jim And Cheri Palumbo for hosting the awards banquet at their home on the Island, Bryan Stuckey for bringing his Cajun fish fryer and cooking all the fish and fries for Saturday night’s dinner, Alicia Wofford for tending the bars and Leslie Farris for all she did in keeping me organized and doing whatever needed to be done for all the events this weekend. Also Thanks to the 2013 Magoo Tournament Committee for all their time and energy in making sure the events and tournament were enjoyable for all. Our 2013 Magoo Tournament Committee was Jim Palumbo, Gary Tate, Spencer Gaille, JIm Burkholder, and Bryan Robinson.

I will be posting photos of the awards banquet and a summary of tournament entries on the Rio Grande Valley Fly Fishing Clubs “Ning” site and on the Laguna Madre Fly Fishing Association’s Face Book Page. If any one else has photos taken during the weekends events or tournament please post your photos for all to see and enjoy.
Thanks to everyone attending and participating in the 2013 Magoo Tournament events. If you were unable to attend we look forward to seeing you at the SPI Beach Trip and Awards Dinner on October 12, 2013 and the other coming 2014 LMFFA events and tournaments.

Best Regards,
