Beryl-ing Toward Brownsville

South Padre Island in Hurricane Beryl’s Sights

I always say, “when,” not if when talking to friends on Padre about hurricanes. And it is a simple truth that the Texas Gulf Coast is a hurricane magnet. But the Tip of Texas is way past due for one of those whirling dervishes and they know it.

I am a little surprised about two things regarding Hurricane Beryl. One, the squiggly lines of prediction have already been discarded. Brownsville has been told to prepare. Second, I have a feeling that once Beryl hits the Bay of Campeche, or the edge of it? It will strengthen more than they are predicting. Campeche is notoriously hot water.

Surf’s UP!

If you are the surfing type? YOU are in luck. Storm surf should reach South Padre by Sunday morning, and my experience and a ticket (failure to evacuate they called it) from South Padre police, tell me they will shut down the Park the same day.

So there you have it. I can’t see this being the last hurricane to touch Texas this year. The season is starting too soon for that kind of luck, and the heat is not letting up. We say our prayers, and if any of my friends need help afterward? You know how to find me!

Looks like the Hurricane is throwing an uppercut and coming in at the Coastal Bend Matagorda area.
