Water Wednesday Going Mellow to Save Water
In our previous Water Wednesday installment we discussed how to conserve space in mountainous landfills by using Nalgene bottles and freezing the contents to make your water supply last through your fly fishing trip in the Texas sun.
As much as we need water intake, we also need to go to the bathroom on occasion to let go of the water we didn’t need, to cleanse our bodies of what needs to pass through. It’s a simple fact of living.
Take this next idea for what it’s worth, and not as: YOU HAVE TO DO THIS! TFC has never been about the preach.
When we are in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, at the cabin, we have this saying that’s based on a septic system that can easily get overrun by a cabin that holds fifteen people. “If it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down.”
And that’s what I propose you do in your personal space for one day a week – Water Wednesday. Starting today, make a statement that may accidentally get attention, unless you live alone. (Although getting attention is not what Mellow Wednesdays are about.) Today: If it’s yellow, let it mellow a bit. Seriously, how can one day a week hurt anyone? It is probably best if you inform your significant others before joining the ranks of fly fishers who are determined to make a difference in Texas water usage.
Spread the word.

OR, you can do like Fletcher and just go pee off the back porch (saves us a couple of flushes a day!).
Best advice I’ve heard . . . “Use water like you’re camping.”
