The Long and Short of It

Monday Morning Sidewalk Thanksgiving Week 2023

This week starts off shortened, and that is on top of the fact there are not enough hours in the day and not enough days in the week anymore – to get loose and get lost on the water.

Even the gremlins inside YouTube did a number on the latest video I uploaded late last week. While I wasn’t paying attention, a video I uploaded – Captain Scott Null talks Texas Tarpon – at a CCA party lecture, was cut off at about the one-third length – I later discovered. With no time to spare, that had to be redone and uploaded once again. You’ll find version two-point-zero below.

Giving Thanks All Week

Why not give thanks all week? The week is gone before it starts, and I am thankful for that! Black Friday is this week, and I am thankful for that too. The weather has turned unpredictable again this week, and we should be thankful for that … no hundred-degree-day after hundred-degree-day, slowly bringing North Texas frogs to a boil.

I am thankful for those memories of being in Houston for Thanksgiving, and red-eyeing it to Galveston for the Black Friday Flounder runs. And now I am thankful that TPWD CLOSED THE FLOUNDER SEASON, after the fish was pillaged by the ballooning Texas population.

I am certainly thankful for all the readers who show up here, at least on a Monday Morning Sidewalk, if nothing more, and take a wild-ass chance by leaving the Facebook world of whack, and read the things that matter slightly more than what I ate for supper last night.

What Do We Do on a Shortened Family Week?

If you’re looking for something to do while off work, and are free to roam this week? Here are a couple of ideas for you:

  • Get the bargain of the year! You can buy and download the Fly Fishing Film Tour 2023 on Vimeo right now, and watch it to your heart’s content. Be sure to hang in there to the piece on Cuba. It’s beautiful to look at.
  • Go back to watch and mostly HEAR a very informative lecture by Capt. Scott Null on Texas tarpon migration and other Texas Gulf Coast fish.
  • Make plans for fly fishing Black Friday.
  • Tie flies for Black Friday!
  • Check back here for a post on “New Music 2023” later this week. Listen to the music.
  • Dust off your three and four-weight rods and check your lines.
  • Starve yourself so that you can eat more on Thanksgiving day.
  • Let us know what you are doing this week!
  • Give thanks.
  • Read a book! My book world is loaded with rod building books right now. Yours?

Thanks for reading this Monday Morning! I know your time, all of it, is valuable! Have a fantastic family filled week, and remember love conquers all. Love your family, and love your time at the Thanksgiving table if you are so lucky. If you’re not hitting the table, hit the water with someone!
