Texas Skiff

Mercury-Tohatsu Lower Unit Slow Drip

This is absolutely the longest continuous run of having the skiff in the barn since I brought it home from Cocoa, Florida, in 2015! Ten years where have you gone.

About two years ago, I started getting a slow leak out one of the small (is it called) weep holes in the lower unit of the 30hp. Tohatsu. That’s when I replaced the seal and O-ring with OEM parts in an effort to stop the leak. Of course I sought out advice from a Gulf Coast expert, but somewhere along the way he had shifted even more right – to a “Neo-Natzi” political view, and I was given the, in highly sanitized language, “fu … get lost liberal,” response. I wonder how that’s going now?

That leak slowed temporarily, very temporarily, but resumed. As the skiff has been sitting for such a long time, this is when to take on the routine (based on hours) of changing out fluids, and just maybe, maybe solving the leak. IF YOU have any hard knowledge on this leak in a 2015 Tohatsu labeled Mercury 4-cycle? I would love to hear from you, and reward you for your knowledge IN SOLVING this problem.

My BEST KNOWLEDGE on this is the leak is LOWER UNIT based. It is extremely slow. It is extremely annoying, and slowly polluting the environment. THE MAIN REASON I am diving into this: There will be a huge number of hours on deck this season, here in North Texas and elsewhere in Big Slow Texas Waters.
