And if you haven’t hit Round Rock in awhile, there’s plenty for the significant others to do while you drop in for a fly tying, info gathering or simply to say hello.
Saturday, November 14th – GRTU MEETING in Sattler, TX.
While not a “shop” event, we highly encourage folks interested in fishing the Guadalupe River this season to attend the October general meeting. There will be a GRTU lease orientation given before the start of the actual meeting. For more info please visit: GRTU Website
Wednesday, November 18th – FLY TYING NIGHT
Come join us for our regularly scheduled fly tying night. We meet at Pok-E-Jo’s BBQ at 6:00 P.M.for dinner and gather back at the shop around 7:00 P.M. for tying. There is round table tying for those wanting to tie their own patterns, and there is also a designated “Fly of the Night,” for which all material and instruction is provided. INTRO TO FLY FISHING CLASS

9:30 A.M. — Introduction to Fly Casting (Traditional and Tenkara)
We’ll be kicking things off with a casting class designed for beginners. Join us for a clinic on the basic principles of fly casting. Casting traditional and tenkara fly rods will be demonstrated and discussed, with plenty of interactive learning opportunities!
11:00 A.M. — Basic Rigging for the Hill Country (Traditional and Tenkara)
This presentation will explain the how’s and why’s behind rod, reel, and line selection for fly fishing our local waters. We’ll also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of different fly line tapers, and show you the knots you need to get rigged up and ready to fish!
1:45 P.M. — Local Hot Spots – Llano River, San Gabriel River, Brushy Creek, Guadalupe, and more!
Come find out where, how, and when to fish our local fishing hot spots. We will be giving a presentation on multiple hill country rivers and will discuss fishing techniques and flies according to each river. After this presentation you can consider yourself to be armed and dangerous from a local fly fishing standpoint! If you’re new to the area, this is a presentation you won’t want to miss!
3:30 P.M. — Fly Tying for Beginners
This class is designed to walk people through the essential basics of fly tying. We will walk each attendee through tying a couple basic fly patterns that fish well on our local water, as well as discussing the uses of the many fly tying tools out there! This is a great class for beginners as well that those who want to brush up on their fly tying and tool knowledge. If you already have a vise and tools, feel free to bring them! We do have a limited amount of loaner vises and tools as well.

10:00 A.M. — GRTU Lease Access Orientation
The GRTU lease program is the easiest way to gain access the Guadalupe River and
the fish that swim in it! This orientation will get you better acquainted with the program and the conservation efforts of our local Trout Unlimited chapter.
1:00 P.M. – Guadalupe Trout 101
This is a comprehensive class on tailwater trout fishing that will cover all
major techniques and teach you how to use them to your advantage. There will be plenty of time for Q & A during and following the presentation.
2:30 P.M. — Tenkara Fishing Texas Trout
Tenkara is fairly new to the Guadalupe River, but is a highly effective method of catching tailwater trout when done correctly. Come learn how to use Tenkara to your advantage on the Guadalupe this season!
4:00 P.M. —Guadalupe Fly Box/Gear Talk
We will crack open the guide boxes and show you what trout flies we use most. In addition to flies, we will discuss essential gear that you will need on the river!
