Why Fly Fishing?
Looking Back in Front of US – 1
This is one of the dissolved into thin digits posts that disappeared during the transition to the new website design. I hope you read the story the first time! Those words are forever lost, but there are always nuggets in the YouTube Video’s “Description” area.
Why Fly Fishing? That, friends, is the NUMBER ONE question I get, and the answer is different for just about everyone, but there is one common thread that I think underlies the reasoning for fly fishing beyond conventional fishing options. I look a little deeper than cool gear, cold beer (never opened) and dreadlocks for this one. It’s not about howling monkeys either. That kitsch is easy enough to explain.
We are often asked why we choose to fish in a more difficult way than the conventional methods of fishing offer us. I try to come up with an answer in this video that touches on the reasoning behind why fly fishing has a particular attraction of people who maybe see the pursuit of fish in a different light.
There are as many nuances to these reasons as there are fly fishers … maybe a small number compared to the conventional hordes, but many in number, reason and clarity of their own fly fishing purpose. This video puts out there, in the wide open, a reason I believe a lot of people I know are attracted to this sport. It certainly isn’t the only reason, but I believe it is ONE BIG reason for the hardcore devotees to a tiny fraction of the fishing sport we profess to love and follow, sometimes to the ends of the Earth.
Thanks for watching the Texas Fly Caster reruns and retreads! This confusion and chaos should end about a week from now.
