The Wholistic Fly Fisher
Keeping the Start Simple
NOTE: This is another post with the video that was whacked off the new site when the redesign came up to existence a couple weeks ago. If you have seen it, then … you have seen it!
A single step starts the physical journey we are undertaking to strengthen every aspect of our fly fishing game by focusing on BODY, mind and soul. And since many of us are coming out of winter mothballs, the physical considerations for a wholistic approach to fly fishing take top priority. In the time that has lapsed since this was originally published, the weather has improved immensely, but still has an angry side to it that can thwart our outdoor exercises before they get close to being routine.
In fact, I have moved my stationary bike into the fly shop because the weather is still playing with my exercise routines in the middle of March. The stationary bike rule is simple: If I have the news turned on the shop TV? I have to ride the stationary bike to watch it. Imagine if everyone who is drowning in the news had the same rule! America would be fit again!
I can tell you for sure, every single year that I have fallen behind, and lapsed on exercise? it takes longer and longer to get back to where I was. That alone is a hill to climb – the mental realizations that unless I don’t stop, the starting over is just that much more steep of a climb.
