The EDC Fly Fishing Knife

Most fly fishers don’t bother with a decent knife to carry along (Every Day Carry) on the water, but many of us will always have a knife clipped handily inside their pocket – off the water. I have been carrying knives for about thirty years – on and off water. I have not yet adapted to an EDC handgun of choice for daily and fly … but that new day is also approaching very quickly.

Meanwhile, it seemed like a good use of my Christmas gift cards to find a fixed blade knife I would love to live with every day, on the belt, on the water and wherever I may go, legally of course, always legally.

Once I was handed the White River Knife & Tool M1 knife a friend of mine owns, IT sealed the deal – this was going to be my next knife of note. (See my recent DANCO KNIVES VIDEO HERE – for lesser known deals on knives.) I am pretty far from collector status, but this knife is in a category that makes it high demand and one to keep. Just like fly rods, I know you can pay any price for a knife and get what you pay for … so I wanted to pay a little more for that feel and quality I felt in my friend’s M1.

Everyone’s hands are different sizes. That said, my hands are are firmly on the medium size scale. This knife has a grip size and choil that make the grip I have, feel extremely strong and confident. The bright scales are icing on the Stonewashed Magnacut Steel blade.

This knife, looking back in a couple of years, could well be considered a bargain in days like these – when a pretty average Benchmade Knife will set you back a couple hundred dollars. If you are searching for a knife, changing from a folder to a fixed blade narrows the search dramatically. If you think about it though, a fixed blade knife really is the best option for us fly fishers, isn’t it? Most folders open with one hand, and do it well, but with a fixed? You are good to go from the moment you pull it out.

EDC fly fishing knife for those who like blades.

NOTE: I paid full price for this knife. It retails for around $120.-170. usd. depending on your configuration choices. At these prices? This is one of those knives that I would FEEL REAL PAIN if I lost it!
