Custom Rod Sleeves

Finally! A Fly Rod Sleeve That Fits

You know how it goes … it’s either too long or too short, but never just right – that is until now.

I tracked down the material used to make those “Rod Socks” you find in all the big box stores, and then I set about to make some for myself! They do the job so well, and turned out so good with my design alterations, I decided there may be a fly fisher, or a few, that could use my custom fit Fly Rod Sleeves.

How are Rod Sleeves Different From Rod Socks?

That requires a long answer, but I did think about it for a long time. The first thing I thought about was how short those Rod Socks come up every time. Good luck trying to find one that is long enough for a fly rod! Imagine if you are a nymph rod user, or a spey caster! You need even longer socks, which don’t exist.

I did try Trexstle and Loon socks, but they had problems too. Again just a smidge too short or too long in the case of Trexstle. And those folded down openings? With bungee? They catch on your rod’s guides coming and going. That isn’t good!

And those colors you find off the shelf or from Trexstle or Loon? Ehhhh gads. I found clear, and that solves that. Not only do you not have to deal with whacky colors anymore, you can see your rod THROUGH the sleeve! That’s why I say, “Rod Sleeves are clearly better!”

Lastly, that mouth. I always catch guides on my rod when pulling off ANY SOCK, and you know when we fight that the most? We fight getting the SOCKS off when the fish are around, your rod is still in the SOCK and in your gunnels. You shake your rod, contort it and twist it to try and get the SOCK that is hung on your guides OFF and casting. Terrible. Slow. A waste of time. I have COMPLETELY DONE AWAY with the folded over mouth. Gone! The end is open and exposed, coated with an anti-fray rubber, and THAT IS IT! The Rod Sleeve slides off and on smoothly. If YOU THINK the mouth needs mods, be my guest.

Texas Sand Bass Killer Clouser Minnow Fly

Product Details

Sold nowhere but here, the sand bass Clouser is unique for one and only one reason; it is tied on the nearly extinct Mustad 39994 #4 Circle Jig hook. It is a typical Clouser pattern RED X WHITE tied by me, but is especially great because of the circle hook which is no longer made by Mustad. This fly is NOT to be considered a saltwater fly because that hook is not a saltwater hook.

Watch my video to learn why this is such a great fly for the Texas sand bass runs, and be sure to check out the HOOK! This hook is sold separately so that you can tie your own version, and change colors on a baseline bass hook that never quits sticking.

Not An Import! TIED BY PoP in TEXAS!
