I marvel at Mother Nature’s control of all our lives.
Tropical depression Bill is bearing down on North Texas right now, and is still organized in a circulation pattern that the talking heads on TV say will generate 40-mile-per-hour sustained winds in a little while, and possibly six inches of rain as well. Would you have believed me if I had told you this would be what we were dealing with, say a year ago?
April and May rains churned virtually the entire State east of the I35E line, and now, as things were starting to normalize, we are getting a dose of major rain atop the last two month’s worth. Long forgotten are the days of early April when the USACE held onto water in Lake Ray Roberts despite huge jumps in inflow (still apparently not a story), and all we ask now is a soft blow and just a little rain if we absolutely have to take it. It is truly amazing how much water is going straight into the Gulf of Mexico, isn’t it?
The fishing should benefit from that two week break we had in the rain, when temperatures normalized and levels began to slow and lakes began to drop. Fish came up, and now ought to be better able to adjust to the changes this week. Translation: There’s fish to be found. Heck, I’ve surfed storm surf … maybe it’s time to fly fish a tropical depression! Any takers today?
