Shifting Some Gears Here And Elsewhere

WOMEN WEDNESDAY – FIRST GEAR

Wednesday. It used to be our “Water Wednesday” here [ppw id=”133619250″ description=”Ladies Fly Fish Free” price=”.10″]

at Texas Fly Caster. It was a time to tell true stories of gloom-and-doom of the water situation here in the State of Texas. Those true stories haven’t changed really, but they have been watered down a bit over the last two years. Such is the fate defined by Mother Nature. There’s another drought in our futures. It could be sooner, or it could be later. That’s all beyond our control. We can conserve in preparation, as individuals, or we can waste as part of a bigger whole in the bucket. My interest in water seems simplistic to me, but a natural offshoot of the sport we love. However, we’re going to take a break from the “Water Wednesday” reports that had already become a bit thinner over the last two years, and we’re shifting to “Women’s Wednesday,” a day to celebrate and criticize the things I find deserving of the new Wednesday column. Controversial? You bet. How could it not be? A college educated, white 54-year-old, part of a newly downtrodden minority, writing about (yes, writing for too) the most powerful gender at the pinnacle of power …

Just remember that a “Column” is a place for opinion. You are welcome to agree or disagree, but if you do have an opinion; don’t be a chicken$&)T, bring it here – let’s hear it, or keep it to yourself.

SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL

Thanks to those of you who’ve read and continue to read my (increasingly rare) entries on Caring Bridge. I am shifting that writing venue into neutral now, but first there’s one more post –
https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/shannondrawe/journal/view/id/5729eed6cb16b41e4e1dfbd5 . If you, or a loved one, is in the midst of cancer’s evil twists, you might consider Caring Bridge as a place to inform and learn. Part of this shifting for me also comes about with a venue for men who find themselves in the same cancer family of HPV throat cancer as myself AT www.hpvthroatcancer.net, a discussion board for more information on this kind of cancer. There’s virtually no traffic there, so that may not be as helpful as I had hoped. For those of you who may have missed my last cancer news, the last scan I had resulted in an “all clear” for me. I think I’ll just leave it at that – once and for all.
Thanks for reading today. If we can get these winds to die down, it’s going to be a heck of a couple days on the water! Keep your  eyes on the dam data for Lake Texoma and Possum Kingdom lake! This week of home life crushed my idea of prefishing Lake Fork, Texas, in preparation for the tournament this weekend, but the idealistic – just show up and do it – is so much more romantic isn’t it?
Ladies, start your fly fishing engines!
