Season Change Means Gear Change
End Fly Line Suffering – With A Few Easy Steps
It’s that time again, in parts of the Texas fly fishing community, to put away the big guns and pull out the trout twigs.
As we put away our heavy freshwater summer rods and reels, it’s a good time, and the last time I will go over some basics about putting away fly lines in a way that helps the line survive and be READY for next season. It’s times like these that I remember Lefty saying, get there ready to fish. I now realize that was not only his time, but his place in the Greatest Generation as a Veteran of the Battle of the Bulge, that may have shaped his attitude towards all of life. If we put fly lines away properly, we will be more ready to fish next time we arrive to wherever we go, be it Texas or Timbuktu.
Speaking of Winding
My fly fishing instructional library of videos is winding it’s way down. Until some issue arrives related to new methods or new gear? There won’t be many more of these types of videos. They have been done, by me or by some YouTuber better or worse than me. Done. Search there and ye shall find. These videos are still pretty useful, but in the grand scheme of things? it’s easier to watch them than to create them anew. And our friends at YouTube have put a plastic bag over these video’s heads this year – smothering the life and joy out of making them.
