On The Disabled List

| July 7, 2015

Hello to all you readers of Texas Fly Caster, my friends and strangers who’ve found their way here through the wonders of the bottomless pit of the internet. For some of you, you know me, some of you think you do, some of you may even show up just to see if I screw the pooch somehow or other. I’ve made, and maybe even earned a few “haters” along the way. I love and appreciate you all. I’ve taken a few slings and arrows along the way, and if I have my way, I’ll take at least a few more.

Right now though, I must turn down the volume on the Texas Fly Caster website, and focus all my extra energy on regaining my health that, I’ve been told, is highly compromised. I really don’t know what the future holds, except that the spiritual nature of fly fishing will probably continue to be a force for my own personal good. I am unsure as to how often I will be posting stories here, but you know that as the machines whir, the chemicals enter my veins, and dreams are induced … I’ll be thinking of all those I love and all that I love. You know that includes this great sport of course.

There’s a heap of irony here, as I am so close to that long ago goal of owning a skiff for the big adventure, and so close to a huge sidetracking of my health. Actually, these two things are happening almost simultaneously.

This is being written while so close to the waiting boat in Cocoa, okay, actually another 1200 miles away, and for all practical purposes it could turn out to be on Mars. These are the questions that time will answer as well.

It’s hard for me to not share this fight as much as any fish fight, so if you are interested in the personal war I am about to wage, I want to invite you to seek out the blog portion of my photography website – www.shannondrawe.com/blog . Perhaps this is an opportunity to tell another story that is important in another way. Regardless, I simply don’t want to populate this site with anything that would dilute the joys of fly fishing in any way.

I will try and seize the fly fishing opportunities that present themselves in the midst of everything else, so don’t be surprised if I show up here with something, somewhere somehow! And if these test appointments fall where I want, I may even make it to Cocoa to hitch up that boat after all …
