New Fly Fishing Records for Texas Waters 2009

| January 9, 2010

RECORDS ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN

I may have mentioned my conversations with the numbers crunchers at Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the ideas I had to generate more interest in their regular news releases. If you are a regular reader of the TPWD site, you know they do a pretty good job of crunching the numbers into the records section for the State Records and Water Body records. You may not even realize that the Water Body Records for Texas also includes saltwater bodies of water. Did you know that there are also records kept for rivers and streams? And there’s the catch-and-release category that doesn’t just apply to fly fishing.

As can be expected in a state like Texas, the fly fishing category of record keeping is much less full than records for conventional tackle catches. That’s the only thing that kept me going as I filtered through every listed record to find just the new records in the fly fishing category for the Sate of Texas registered in 2009. It would generate interest for regular TPWD readers if they would just do this on the TPWD site … imagine the readers who would want to see only the new conventional records across the state for 2009!

If you take the time, as I did, to really dig into the records for Texas you will see some names coming up repeatedly in certain regions – for fish that may not be trophies, but still count on the books. I challenge anyone reading this to register a record, or beat one in 2010, and tell us all about it. It doesn’t happen very often in North Texas, so we will keep our expectations low, very low.

Anyway, here are the new record fish caught by fly rod in Texas in 2009.

Do you have to employ a card to place the order?

  2. shannon says:

I find ample doses of humor in these records – am still trying to figure out how to measure .54 pounds. I mean, do they carry around a postage scale? Really – how does that work? SD

I’ve never tried, or really thought about, breaking any fishing records. This entry has inspired me to check into the records here in Idaho, see what other people have achieved!
