MUSIC – Gourds and Son Volt in Denton

Denton Music Scene Gourds Son Volt Dans Silver Leaf

I just got an e mail from the Dan’s Silverleaf bulk mailer, and believe it or not, there are two great bands now on the schedule for Dan’s.

The Gourds are having a CD release party this week – January 15 to be exact, and have no doubt – it’ll be a humdinger. This one must have come out of the blue, because it is such short notice, but beggars can’t be choosers. This is Denton after all.

And completely new to the lineup is a show by Son Volt! Where to begin when it comes to Son Volt? I’ve seen them twice, as soloist Jay Farrar and in a week that completed a fantasy bi-fecta in 2007, I saw Son Volt and Wilco within a week of each other, thus completing the reunion of the greatest, most important band to exist from the late ’80’s to the early ’90’s — the legendary Uncle Tupelo. I have already set aside 1-million of my future LOTTO earnings to finance a one night show reuniting Uncle Tupelo when those magic six numbers come through. A trillion isn’t what it used to be, but a millions still a million.

If you are within striking distance, and you miss either of these, you better be sick or dead.
