Fly Fish Father’s Day

| June 17, 2010

Wondering what to do this weekend? Well, if you have a father, and he’s “one of us”, take him fishing. Wet a line.

Sure, I know it’s a thousand degrees in North Texas, and there’s no rain in the forecast for … as far ahead as they are willing to forecast, but just being near some water can cool some senses and restore sensibility. Lakes are dropping as water gets drained into greening chemically enhanced yards, which then are mowed … often by Dads. Maybe, in the name of Dads, everyone could not water for the next three days, a father’s day moratorium on draining lakes.

If you’re shopping for dad, don’t look to my thread on father’s day gifts because there’s nothing there. There are a few ideas here though:
1) There is a airshow here in Denton this weekend
2) A fly tying vise – I will be doing an expose on North Texas carp flies coming out this weekend – tie your own
3) Buff the magic sun protector
4) A guide – Joel Hays for carp or Rob Woodruff for East Texas bass or Scott Bridgess for Texoma stripers
5) Boga – guys seem to be losing these on a regular basis
6) Texasflycaster Gift Certificate – to spend on commerce here or purchase access to “Hot Spotting” thread
7) A TFO Clouser fly rod
8 A TFO Prism machined reel
9) A Yeti Cooler – there’s a CCA version, so part of your thousand dollars would go to a good cause
10) Nothing. He knows you love him.

Good luck, and if you have any suggestions, as always – FEEL FREE to add them here.
