Dolly Takes Aim on SPI – Grandma Reports You Decide

| July 23, 2008

Hello Hurricane Dolly aims for Valley

Just off the phone to my Grandmother in Weslaco, Texas, and the TV talking heads are throwing themselves into the wind on the Island, looking for the driest, most sheltered and exposed place to deliver the obvious news that a category one hurricane spins just off the South Texas coast. Reporter Grandma said winds have yet to pick up and although the radar shows red bands passing over, the rains have not yet really hit. From the rain I saw earlier this month in the Valley, folks there should expect some serious flooding – especially in the Harlingen area.

Apparently the eye still spins just off the Island and continues to become more defined. One interesting characteristic of this event is the water is cooler along the coastline than offshore – 80’s along the shore and 90’s offshore. That is curious and interesting – global warming, the Bush administration?

I would abandon ship – since the events you describe are now impossible.

We have a whole group of campers down there doing beach and sailing camp. They were thinking of coming home last night, but decided to stick it out. I guess we’ll see how that goes.
