Took Years But WE Crossed the 5K Line!

You read that right. This fly fishing website has never been more circulated among friends – think handing it around like a newspaper – and now the YouTube Channel Texas Fly Caster also crossed the five-thousand subscriber threshold. I always shoot straight, and honest here and on those videos (watch the one in this story if you don’t already know that), and the honest truth is I had geared myself to cross that 5K line BEFORE the end of 2025.

But we know the entire economy and everything associated with it is casting into a headwind right now, and again honestly, I had a detour on the route that YouTube ghosts in their machine did not like at all – that being tagging “The Wholistic Fly Fisher ©” video series to Texas Fly Caster. Since I have separated the two, the numbers have been moving at a better speed. And numbers don’t just mean subscribers. More people are spending more time watching those Texas Fly Caster videos than ever before. Long videos, it turns out, are shining brightly these days, even to the point were YouTube has a new classification for videos we upload, called “Shows.” Are you starting to get where the number one streaming channel (YouTube) is going with this? YouTube wants fewer GOOD video makers, and more GREAT video makers to make the leap into film making that represents itself and holds itself together LIKE A SERIES, and do it for zero cost and series makers have to be so good our “Shows” generate their own income on it’s own. Wow. We content makers are pressed to rise to the top and it’s all sticks and not many carrots. It is what it is, you know the deal, we know the deal.

Sand Bass Chase on Ray Roberts

Chasing sand bass on topwater bite on Lake Ray Roberts used to be a thing. It’s a thing I have not seen in years, but I am not giving up as long as my fly fishing destination distances are cut down to the nub, due to vehicle limitations. That is about to be remedied. Meanwhile, I swore off Ray Roberts last year publicly, so you who have been reading along for so long were probably wondering why Ray Roberts was showing up on the play list once again. That’s the main reason – travel distances. The other reason is as old as fly fishing – trying to keep hope alive and revive the great times, now distant memories, of those blitzing sand bass. Few Soggy Bottom Boys ditch and creek sand bass outings compare to a topwater blitz on a clean lake, in a boat!
