Redington Grande Puts the Brakes On!

Colorful language for a colorful fish. I thought it only fitting to drop a review of what I find to be a darn good fly reel that doesn’t break everyone’s bank account. The Redington Grande reel is a … well, heck, just watch the video. I have a few of these because I was worried about the supply chain in 2025, and am looking at the potential for renewing my salt game – for real in 2026. Yeah, talking about it just may jinx it, you know those fly fishing superstitions die hard.

New Studio Set Under Construction

The few of you TRUE HEROES who bother to join my YouTube Membership group already know – I am working in a more controlled environment for making these videos. There are tons of challenges, but I am finally getting somewhere, and just in time for the icy weather to kick in. So far, I don’t like how it looks, but then I never have been completely satisfied with any background since the South Padre Island days, and those days were stupidly cut short.

I will be out in the bush today – to create the video about what exactly “THE GAPE” is in my gear evaluations, reviews or whatever you want to call them. The “Gear Review” topic gets a lot of eyes, and its share of troll comments as well. Enough trolls to make me think about how I do reviews and how I need to do reviews going into 2026. In all likelihood you will know more about THE GAPE before the week is out. And it will appear first to my YouTube Membership, and then go public a day, or two, later. For me, the more I think about gear reviews the more I see the need to explain the method to that madness. And in case you forgot to read the story on why fly fishing gear is so expensive, to begin with, here is the link to that article – A SIMPLE ANSWER THAT CONFOUNDS FLY FISHERS AND FLY SHOP OWNERS

The Redington Grande Reel is a good value, but it isn’t CHEAP. And that is because it isn’t CHEAP! It is also a few number factors from what is EXXPENSIVE when it comes to a saltwater fly fishing reel. I can give you examples of those, but you know who you/they are already. The Grande and all the gear I have in the Ice Box waiting for review suffers to wait, while I struggle to explain THE GAPE later on today … so check back at the YouTube Channel and here. The Gape story will not appear here before next week though, so bookmark / like / subscribe to the YouTube Channel.
