Call it click bait if you want, I really didn’t break any laws – BUT MY OWN! Sometimes we have to bend and break to get a guest on board the skiff, and this was one of those times.

Doing ramp combat, skipping boat wakes in open water and the sounds of glitter boats cranking up? Those all make me dodge weekends on big water in Texas … most of the time, almost all the time. But when Caleb wants to go out, we’re going out. He’s a good caster and has good eyes and knowledge of the Lake Ray Roberts fish.

And at less than half my age, maybe he will rise to be one of the ones left standing after we move on? Time will tell, but I am always ready to roll the dice on a person and a day – just to have one more person, other than me, feel that tug. Don’t get me wrong, I like the tug too, but I crossed that rubicon – from me wanting, to me wanting others more – a significant number of years ago. My joy at catching these fish in this place? It is complete.

On Another Note

Funny things these discussion boards, and even the dying but still solid TexasFishingForum, these boards have their moments. I mostly go on the boards for three reasons. ONE – to share. TWO – to show. THREE – to grow. I like sharing and showing what I try to do to expand people’s horizons in fly fishing, and from that I hope it grows the sport. I do self-promote as everyone does there, but I try to do it in moderation. Sometimes I succeed, and sometimes not. Sometimes fruitful discussion threads grow, and most of the times they do not (these days of dying discussion boards). You’ll recall, I never went back to the National (USA) boards after a truly disturbed individual singled me out, and with no administrative restraints, continued to grind until I realized that this person needed help and those particular boards were run by a bunch of old F&^Ks drunk on their own “power.”

Well, I never dreamed a post that I ran here, with Alvin Dedeaux’s video calling on YETI to say/do something in Big Bend, Texas, would in fact, bring out the trolls. But … I was wrong. Posters in that thread instantly devolved into quibbling about YETI’s stock numbers, and believe it or not, transsexuals … I kid you not. And questions of me being “serious” about what I posted, reposted. We’re at twenty-years here folks. I don’t feel I need do much more to PROVE my serious love of this sport.

The entire micro-drama, and that is what it is MICRO, left me suspecting, with nothing to go on but the incredible reactions, it left me suspecting these thread participants may have been motivated by skin tones more than content. When guys show up, virtually out of nowhere, and start hijacking a thread with talk like, “I wonder if he believes men can be women too? Be careful who influences you.” Yes, a fly fishing thread. But wait! Here’s more: “Typical liberal response. First you attack me, then create an environmental narrative that ignores the people who are suffering.

Does this guy know these people? Absolutely not.

Does he know if these people are living in fear. No. I know people who live in other countries that not only have bars on their windows and doors, but also on their bedroom doors. Does that come to mind.

Does he remember the rape trees in which the human smugglers placed the panties of their victims? Not likely

Does he offer a solution to preventing the next invasion? No. He just wants clicks. He thinks he’s one of the most influential people on the internet and wants to amplify a narrative for his own good.”

As we approach the midterm elections, and radical change yet again coming to the USA, change that is radical only because it is going back toward normal, these who have other agendas, other feelings? These few, this minority, this minority of Texans? they’re starting to squirm, and here we see it. “Next invasion?” They feel their unearned, unfounded and baseless sycophantic power slipping away.

Simple Stuff

How many times do I have to put my hand on a hot stove before I learn? THE TRUTH is this is not a fly fishing “Hot Stove” story. In fact, my early responses in this thread did point out the inaccuracy of Alvin Dedeaux’s placement of responsibility. And then? It went radically, radical and sideways. In the grand scheme, these fellas forgot, or never knew, fly fishing as in all fishing, is SUPPOSED TO BE FUN! Hence, my theory presented here, this is not about the angling sport. It is about something much deeper and more subversive and caustic in our society today. (NOTE: I was completely dumbfounded by the fact that all the people I know, who use TexasFishingForum, sat silent and let this get completely out of hand, and that includes the moderator, whom I also know personally. ONLY ONE person called BS on these whacks – kdub#1. I know you, but I don’t. Thanks for telling the truth to these strange boys.)

What else did I learn? Well … I have been mulling over the idea of a weekly fly fishing NEWS SHOW for YouTube. You know, like talking about important, and FUN topics in several categories, and showing the BEST while leaving out the WORST (like this TFF thread). The work would be all-consuming of my MMI crew, but it would also allow me to stay in fly fishing in an area of the State that is looking more like Arizona every day. We’ll see. It seems pretty overwhelming, but with the decline of the weekly Texas Angler Podcast, and its lack of traction? It may be time to push HARDER instead of SOFTER.

Keep in mind, I never set out to MAKE news. I just want to give you NEWSWORTHY fly fishing information and you choose its value to your journey.
