Hearing from Weatherly tonight via text and he reports the Blue River (C-n-R) to be rocking good. Just goes to prove Joel Hays knows that place. Apparently Weatherly got into "16-20 inch trout", "many" and stayed at a B-n-B that is recommended on the Scottie's website. Wonder what else I am missing out on? Remember the Oklahoma licenses expire 12/31 and also don't put off going for too long as they open up the C-n-R to killers at the end of February.

Whatever you do, don't tell these guys – http://texasfishingforum.com/f…..ver#UNREAD – about the C-n-R. I did that last year and there was a stampede.

I feel your pain re. getting hurt and having no insurance. But you know the Blue well enough I would think, plus you could just avoid the treacherous spots. I may hang out on the bank with you. Joel–You thinking about heading up anytime soon? I am game to go, but I would not be the best to show anyone around that river. I have only been there once, and I got lost and ended up bush-whacking through 3 miles of thorns, which thrashed a pair of Simm's G3's. Thankfully, I had three or four tubes of Aquaseal on hand. Let me know aht y'all are thinking…I have the time.
Am actually considering going to the LLELA for some small trouts to put in the freezer…and it would be a good way to learn this new skagit line I got for my spey rod. All are welcome!

Well this weather is about to go bad again – late Wednesday and lasting through Sunday. Let's either do the Blue or LLELA and put some food on the table. I know I need to eat. You have a Bicycle? It's a clean shot up to the top of the C-n-R and step right in.

Just found your blog. Nice info. Never been to the Blue, but have heard of it. I'm thinking about a trip up there from Dallas in the next couple of weeks. I'll be flying solo, so do you have any suggestions on parking/hiking/flies? I assume it's mostly nymphing? I went up to the White/Norfork in AR a few years ago and it was so crowded with a-holes, it was kind of a turnoff. Does the Blue get crowded on weekends? I'm willing to hike a significant distance for less people/better fly water. I would greatly appreciate any help you could provide me before I head up there and get skunked.

Welcome Dedfischer! Blue doesn't get crowded where we go – the catch-and-release only area. There is a chance a group of guys are going up there later this week. We are watching the weather closely. I will not get to go yet as I have a couple of photo shoots scheduled.
It is a significant hike into the upper reaches of the C-n-R area. We usually take bikes and make short work of the one mile distance so we can fish more. The water itself is a series of waterfalls with pools below them – with ankle high flow at most (most I've ever seen). So we get wet up to our knees on occasion – waders of course. It gets cold up there as it is pretty exposed.
Best on overcast weather and maybe some drizzle. These are stockers, so if you hit the right nymph, you will get tired of catching. If you want to throw buggers, you will do fine too. Small and short rods – I use a TFO 7'3″ 2wt and also a 7'6″ 4wt. — small and as light as you can handle makes for a fair fight.
Did you see the map of that area I have on one of my posts? The lower area, I call catch and kill, can get very crowded and the fish are of lesser quality, but it's much easier to find and access. It is a pretty area though.
I can assure you we can find you someone to go up there with if we keep this thread running – I'll let the guys know what's up. It's fine, and safe to go alone, but depending on your age and conditioning … heck, I never recommend going fishing anywhere alone.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I was out of touch for a couple of days and was planning on going tomorrow. Will more than likely pass with the weather, but want to get up there in the next couple of weekends. I'll try to stay and touch and maybe we can cross paths. Thanks for the tips and I maybe a little over-rodded, but don't really want to spend the money on something that light. If I get to going a bunch, I might change my mind or get something cheap.

Cool. Looks like they made good of it yesterday – http://texasflycaster.com/back…..010-01-29/ . That's a lot more water flowing in that photograph than I remember. I think it could be runoff. It's a lot colder up there, and according to the national news, they are having electrical outages due to ice. Be sure to get back and post here and maybe we can make a go of a trip.
