Here it goes! The labor of love in this site now begins to show new fruit, as we now emerge with a new view thanks to wordpress. It is almost complete with more bells and whistles coming to the right column and a blogroll that should make this site a starting source to get to other informational sites. If you want to recommend a site to add, or have a site you want added to our blogroll, please let us know and our crack research staff will take a vote and see if it makes muster for the texasflycaster blogroll.
We went looking for the Sand Bass running late yesterday afternoon – in a creek notorious for runs this time of year. When it comes to “SPOTS”, the only way our research staff gives up the GPS coordinates for them is through a personal e mail referring to the spot you are seeking. This spot was not yet crawling with spawning Sandies, but we did manage to find a few, and with one of us using a three weight and me using a six weight, there were unique challenges to be had. A 9′ rod in the ravine of a creek managed to airmail a few flies into the trees – my very frustrating loss. And the ultralight (for Sand Bass) three made for equal opponents – these Sand Bass are running in the 1 to 1.5 pound range right now.
Rumor has it we are going to do some research on private property girding the same creek sometime soon. This site is closer to the lake and word has it there are large Sand Bass and 4-5 pound Hybrids stacking up there. Guaranteed follow up on that rumor. North Texas weather patterns have most research on hold for at least two days.
