Ok, there has to be a limit to what mixes with what. I mean, is the saying “beer before wine but after liquor … yada yada” in play when considering mixing fish and politics? They both mostly stink don’t they? Maybe they do go together, but maybe that would be too much of a smelly thing.
The weather winds are blowing politicians all over this oversize State today, all in search of votes for tomorrow’s Democratic Primary. And since the winds, rain and snow are blowing in and around these parts, fishing is a losing proposition – for a couple of days anyway. The whirlwind even landed Gloria Steinem in Denton, Texas, today to try and scoop up college votes from Texas Woman’s University. It’s a little known fact that Denton is home to about 45-thousand students during the normal Fall / Spring school year – fertile ground for Obama tomorrow. If Hillary can add some youth vote to all the Republicans voting for her tomorrow, she stands a chance to keep going all the way. I have her at 52 / 48, but with proportioning, she will need even more. Texas is a strange political state, and now that it is actually important, the Nation gets to see just how strange it is. Change is also in the wind.
There’s just something about Gloria. When you are in the same auditorium with her, (like so many other famous people) you know you are standing with someone who will be in American History books forever. For better-or-worse, I am not the judge, she has had a profound impact on American sociology. I wonder if she would like fly fishing?
What mixes? Fly fishing, politics, religion … no wait a minute fly fishing is religion … fly fishing and politics? One thing is certain, we are all due for a monster hangover come Wednesday morning, and I wish it was from a fishing marathon.
