Time to interrupt the normal flow of information to put out a FishFlash — my arm is tired from bringing in about a dozen very nice stripers from below the dam at Lake Texoma. I fished all morning yesterday, until my arm was tired of casting and catching on my 8 weight with fish sizes no smaller than 14 and up to 18 inches. Thank goodness for the 8 as the wind picked up I could still cut through the wind and get my gargantuan flies out and down to them.I had the most luck with the fly above. Contact me if you are interested in how it is done.

The other highlight of yesterday’s outing was meeting Texoma guide Scott Bridgess. Scott was a fountain of information about Texoma, and his business card says it all; “Fly Fishing and Light Tackle for Striped Bass”.
Scott fishes Texoma virtually every day and is a frequent poster on the boards at Texas Fly Report. Texas Fly Report is probably the best thing going for sharing fishifo.
Talking to him provided a fountain of information including his opinion that there seems to be a lessening of bait fish below the dam that leads to hungry – very hungry – smaller stripers. Meanwhile,he has witnessed (from his kayak) the larger Stripers literally slaughtering Gizzard Shad when the current was running. Basically, he thinks the lake Stripers are getting fatter while those below are showing signs of getting skinny. The big ones – well they’re just BIG.Fascinating stuff.
